Thrift Store Finds for My Foyer

Posted by on Apr 9, 2013 in brass, foyer, thrift store, yard sale | 30 comments

My house never gets a break.

I am constantly changing things around.

I just can’t help it.

{Seems to be a common problem among bloggers ~ That’s why I like you guys so much!}

I find great “new” things at my thrift stores. . .

and, the rearranging begins!

Spring Tablescape @ DaisyMaeBelle

Stairway @ DaisyMaeBelle

Take this little collection on the wall.

I had the bird framed in a much larger frame.

Hanging Pictures in a Stairway @ DaisyMaeBelle

But, then I found this beautiful old frame.

Stairway Decorations @ DaisyMaeBelle

Which made me remember the little bird plate that I had picked up a while back.

Along with the tiny chalkboard.

And, a new “gallery” wall was born.

Nest and Birdcage Arrangement @ DaisyMaeBelle

The rearrange began today with this great $3 find.

Spring Tablescape @ DaisyMaeBelle

Which reminded me of the mirror I had picked up at a yard sale at the end of the season.

Spring Tablescape @ DaisyMaeBelle

Which I thought would look great with my 50 cent candlesticks.

Thrift Store Finds @ DaisyMaeBelle

And, my $1 brass tray.

How to Display a Shell Collection @ DaisyMaeBelle

Which looks so nice with our collection of shells.

And, that is how it happens.

These spaces were not empty before today.

So, now I have a few things to get rid of.

My new rule does not allow me to store anything that I have already used.

I can house things that are yet to be used.

{Which at least limits what I actually store!}

Life to the full!

Melissa

  2. I love walking up the stairs to this beautiful nook. Great job…..again!!!

  3. Melissa I want to come thrifting with you!!
That first shot belongs in a magazine!! LOVE IT!

  4. This is awesome! I admire your discipline to get rid of “things”, but I love my “things” too much to part with any of them <3

  5. I had to laugh…you change one thing, and before you know it you have the whole area torn apart and new vignettes are born! I do it all the time :) Your bargains look wonderful together!

  6. Your thrifty findings are just beautiful. I too love thrifty finds. Love the mirror and the shells. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I love the way one change leads to another and then another.

    Very pretty!

  9. Very nice! I love the little grouping with the birds especially. and nice thrifting :)

  10. Love all your pretty finds in your vignette. I do the same thing, when something comes in, something else has to go. It doesn’t always happen that way though:-)

  11. Simply lovely!!

  12. You sure have a talent for finding the winners at the thrift stores, I’m so envious. Course if I’d get up earlier than what I do to hit the thrifts I might have a better chance of getting some of the best.
Nope, guess I’ll just have to take my chances. I’m a late person, not an early one. See how I am? Think when it gets too hot to linger in bed I’ll get my fanny up to hit the yard sales soon.
You always have the nicest goodies, they must have your name on them and nobody goes for them, lol. Enjoy, your home looks gorgeous as always. Wouldn’t want to have to climb those steps tho. Old faux knees don’t like steps altho it would be good for thighs.
Glad for you to find the nicest goodies. Happy WEekend

  13. My kind of finds…I nominated your blog for the Liebster Award you can see it at http://hickorytrailblog.blogspot.com/2013/04/i-was-nominatedliebster-award.html

  14. Your mind works similar to mine — just one little thing can set all the wheels in motion! That is a pretty struck rule you have about things only getting used once. Most all of my small stash of decor items get used, re-used, and used again, but almost never in exactly the same way. We all play little mental games with ourselves, don’t we?

  15. That’s a tough rule – not storing things. I would have a hard time parting with certain things.

My husband just shakes his head at all the changing. I am retiring in 55 days and he is only concern is how much for frequently the house will be changing when I have all day to “play house.”

  16. I love thrifty finds too! You did a great job, Melissa!

  17. Great finds. Love the bird picture and the pot with the chicken wire cloche.
    Happy Sunday!

  18. Melissa – How do you manage to stick to that plan? I cannot seemed to get rid of anything, whether I have used it or not! Your new decorations look wonderful – I have one of those brass candlesticks with the blue and white inserts. I wish that I had two! They look wonderful with your other pieces.

  19. Oh, this is so pretty! Love your thrifty cloche and it looks wonderful over the plant. Just a pretty vignette.
    be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  20. There you go again Melissa, snagging more amazing finds. Sure wish we could have a little shopping trip together. Blessings to you, Patti@OldThingsNew
