Picnic Basket for Craft Storage

Posted by on Aug 27, 2012 in crafts, Daisy's room, fabric flower, organization, yard sale | 14 comments

One of the requests Daisy had for her new room, was a great place to craft.

She is a lot like her mother. . .

Storage was a big issue.  We wanted cute, stylish storage.

So far we have used pickle jars and an old travel suitcase.

Here is the next addition to the “craft storage.”

I found this picnic basket at a yard sale with a tag marked “free.”

Yes, she was giving it away because the strap was broken.

I didn’t need the straps anyway!

Here is where we started.

I gave it a good coat of spray paint.

ALWAYS buy this kind of spray paint!

It is a little more expensive, but it is totally worth it.  Believe me, I am a thrifty shopper.  I love a good generic brand.  But, you end up having to use so much of the other paints that it is not worth the lower price. (No, I am not being paid to say this. I have no connection to the world of spray paint except that I have used many cans of this to redo this bedroom.  And, I have bought the cheap stuff and it always makes me crazy.  I am just trying to save you some time and money.)

Isn’t this the greatest color?!  Fire Orange.

After the painting, I added a ribbon and a fabric flower with a little hot glue.

It took no time to make this!  And, it holds so much!

It looks beautiful sitting in her bookcase.

And, you would never believe all of the clutter (supplies) it is hiding.

Life to the full,

Melissa

  1. What a great idea, Melissa! I love how you prettied it up, too. Such a fun color. I love the Rustoleum spray paint and Heirloom White will always be a favorite.

  2. Love that color, so pretty and cheery and useful. What a lucky daughter to get such an inspiring redecorated room. Know what you mean about spray paint quality. Glad to hear she’s a crafter.

I have several of those picnic baskets I bought in KY. Don’t see them here in Grand Junction, CO area. (don’t see alot of things here and people don’t like the distressed look. Only using one of my baskets in house,(to store dvd’s), others are out in shed getting dusty. This is 2nd. time I’ve seen a redo on picnic basket so guess I’ll be getting some of those baskets out to repurpose. I have lots of stuff to “hide” in them. Just bought a can of light aqua on sale at Michaels on Monday, can hardly wait to spray it.
