Christmas Mantel Ideas

I know…I know what you’re thinking…

…it’s too early to be thinking about Christmas decorations!

But this year I am going to be prepared for December.

I’m not going to be running around like a wild woman…irritated with people who are driving too slow…and frustrated that the store doesn’t have what I’m looking for…and grabbing dinner on the run every night because there is just too much to get done.

Not me.

Not this year.

This year I am going to be sipping hot chocolate with my girls…curling up by a fire watching Christmas movies…making cookies for friends…driving around looking at Christmas lights…and enjoying every minute of this special holiday.

And in order for that to happen. I am going to have to get a head start.

Which means decorating a few spaces a bit earlier than usual.

Sonya from At Home With The Barkers and I have teamed up to bring you some mantel inspiration!

For the next 3 days, we are going to be bringing you the best of the best of Christmas Mantel Ideas!

So here is my mantel all decked out for Christmas.

Make sure to check the end of this post for more Christmas Mantel Ideas!

Setting a Pretty Fall Table

Could someone please tell me what happened to October?!

It seems that I blinked and I missed it.

But I am seriously glad that November will be here tomorrow.

I can’t wait to host Thanksgiving dinner!

And I’m already playing around with the table a bit.

I’m thinking something natural…and full of dried hydrangea…and acorns…and leaves…with a touch of gold.

Here is one idea for setting a pretty fall table.

Styrofoam Head Crafts

This post is brought to you by FloraCraft® but all opinions are totally mine! Read my full disclosure here.

My girls want me to be on Craft Wars…

…and I think I could TOTALLY win…

…if it weren’t for that being on TV part.

I just know that I’d lock down as soon as they announced that the cameras were rolling.

And I’d be left standing there not being able to think up one creative idea at all and wishing that I could go back home.

I’m really more of a behind the scenes kind of gal.

I’ll just pretend like I’m a part of my own little Craft Wars with no cameras rolling. 🙂

So when I was presented with the challenge of making something creative with a FloraCraft® Foam Head…

…I just pretended that I was on Craft Wars.

And this is the styrofoam head craft that I came up with.

How to Transfer Quotes to Wood

I love little chairs.

My house is full of little chairs that used to be sat in daily…and now they sit empty most days unless a little friend visits.

I miss my little people sitting in their little chairs.  I miss my little people being little.

Like on Monday I went into Chick-fil-a and they had remodeled…the booths were different…the way you stood in line was different…the play place was different…

…and I cried.  Real tears.

Not because the remodel was frightening.  It was actually quite lovely.

But I cried because my Chick-fil-a had remodeled and I never knew it had happened.

You see, when my girls were younger, we spent a lot of time in that Chick-fil-a.  We were there every Monday.

That was Chick-fil-a Monday for our family.

I would sit and talk with my sweet David and the girls would eat and play.

We would meet friends there for lunch. And me and my friends would talk while the kiddos played.

Those were sweet times.

And I realized that those sweet times at Chick-fil-a were over.

{And here go the tears again.}

And even though this little chair will never be sat in by my little people, I still couldn’t resist it!

Here is how I made this chair over and how to transfer a quote to wood:

Tips for Organizing Your Pantry

I’m not an organized person.

I wish I were.

It seems like such a nice thing. Organization.

I mean I like organization…and I like the thoughts of organization…and I like to look at beautifully organized spaces…and shop the organizing aisles at Target.

I just have a hard time sticking with organization.

There is no follow through.

I organize a space and buy all of the right organizing bins and labels and baskets.

And I proudly show my family the newly organized space and explain the processes of what needs to be done to keep this space organized.

But then life gets busy and I {we} don’t take the extra 30 seconds to put each item in it’s appropriate home…

…and the next thing you know…

…it looks like something exploded in what was once a beautifully organized space.

So here are a few tips for organizing your pantry:

The Fake Picnic that Changed Everything

The Fake Picnic that Changed Everything

So today…I almost quite blogging.  I was all set to write my farewell post and call it a day.

It all started with a typical afternoon. My girls were jumping on the trampoline after rushing home from school and I had about 15 minutes before we had to be to the next event of the day and I was setting up a picnic…that no one was ever going to sit down to. It was a fake picnic with no food and no people. I didn’t have time for a real picnic. It was just for the blog. And as I decided which candlesticks looked the best and whether I should include the white owl or run around to the front porch to borrow the mums…I couldn’t help but wonder if this was really how I should be spending my time.

I’m right in the middle of raising 3 girls. Girls that I am humbly trying to raise to love the Lord and love people.

This is not an easy task. It doesn’t just happen. It takes time and training and prayer. But I know that it’s my greatest mission in life currently.

I’m getting ahead of myself…I need to back up…

{And yes, you are going to have to look at these fake picnic pictures…I couldn’t waste them…They took too much time! }

Fall Front Porch Ideas

I’m tired…you probably can’t relate. 🙂

I’m probably the only one running ninety to nothing.

The only one with kids to get to soccer and cross country.

The only one who has children who need to dress up like Disney characters tomorrow and didn’t tell me until we were getting home… at 8:00…with the costumes needed in the morning…really?

I’m probably the only one who had exactly 20 minutes to cook dinner…pack it in a cooler…and rush out the door to the game.

The only one who could use a bit of a break.

The only one who needs to take a few minutes to count her blessings.

A few minutes to be reminded how good life is…what a blessing those children are…what a blessing that there is food that can be ready so quickly and easily…a few minutes to take a few deep breaths.

And when I know that I need those few minutes…my porch is the perfect place to go!

How to Make a Fall Sign

How to Make a Fall Sign

So if you have 10 minutes and a garage full of randomness

…this is the project for you.

And if you don’t have that garage full of randomness…maybe you are lucky like me and you have a friend with that perfect stash who is willing to share!

My garage is certainly full enough. {Don’t judge. There are amazing treasures in there. Honestly.}

So I had this idea that I needed a new Fall sign made with all fun letters…so I headed to my garage.

But I couldn’t find what I needed.

So I headed to the antique stores with friends and I put everyone on the hunt for random letters to spell “Fall.”

I came up dry. {Although I did score a few other treasures.}

So later that day my friend called me up…she had searched her stash…and had come up with a plan!

And it’s even more perfect that what I even had in mind!

Welcome Fall Home Tour – Day 5

There are some things that I just never want to come to an end.

Like our beach vacation last year…it was 10 days of paradise.

No to-do lists…no alarms…lunch by the pool every day…my family together all day every day…

…and I cried when we drove away. Real tears. All the while talking to myself to remind myself that I would be back. That there would be another beach trip next year. That I needed to count my blessings for such a treat as a beach trip. And that I just needed to get a grip for crying out loud!

And although I don’t think I’ll cry real tears when this Welcome Fall Home Tour is over…

…I sure am sad to see it come to an end!

But there will be another one next year!

{Just like I’ll be packing again in the next few days for another 10 days of paradise!}

So today I bring you the final day of the tour…

And a HUGE THANK YOU to my co-host Sonya from At Home With the Barkers!
