After 10 years of having white formica countertops, we were finally able to get new ones!
Happy Dance!!!
I love the look of marble, but not the price tag or the upkeep.
So, I opted for the lightest granite that I could afford.
We also added a brick backsplash.
I love the look of exposed brick!
So, here is a look at my kitchen.
My dad painted my cabinets for me a few years back.
He has actually painted them twice. He is a saint.
He told me the last time that I had him paint them that I should choose a color that I REALLY like because this would be the last time he would paint them. Luckily, I really like this color!
It is a pale creamy gray (or is it grey?)
The barstools are new – but, the wrong color. I still need to paint them.
They were so cheap; I did not mind painting them!
I always need more storage in the kitchen. I added all of the baskets above the cabinets.
They are all full to the top.
I just added the basket above the fridge. You can see how I made it here.
The black door to the right is my pantry.
I got this old ice bucket for $1 at a yard sale. Great for holding all of the stirring and flipping stuff!
This is my theme in life these days! I want to live each day with passion! Life to the full!
Another flying pig!
The kitchen table is just beyond the countertops is this picture.
It was entirely too messy to photograph.
These canisters belonged to my grandmother!
I have mentioned a few times just how handy my dad is.
He made this island for me several years back.
This is one of my first Annie Sloan Chalk paint projects! (Pre-blog, so I do not have before and after pictures.)
One of my favorite things about this kitchen is my new sink and faucet.
I LOVE this sink.
I did not even know that it was possible to love a sink.
I had no idea what a difference a deep sink made! You can hide a full days worth of dirty dishes in the bottom of this monster!
Another small change, was bumping this center cabinet up. I wanted to add a microwave/vent hood combo but, I did not have the room.
This little “bump” made the difference!
I need to learn how to edit my photos!
My kitchen stays a bit dark.
That is on my list of things to learn!
Life to the full to you today!
Here are the places that I party!

What a pretty cozy kitchen! I love your new light countertops! They look lovely with your pretty cabinets! What a fresh and light kitchen… perfect for making great food!
Thanks! Now to the part about making great food!
What kind of brick did you use for the backsplash? I love the cabinet color as well…do you remember the name of it? Gorgeous kitchen!!
I had a brick company cut pavers from regular bricks. I had to look around for a place that would do it. I found a place in Nashville and recently found a place in Murfreesboro. As for the color of the paint, I will have to look it up! You cannot see the color very well in these pictures, but it is a warm gray. I really love the color!
You want to see a dark kitchen, Melissa, you should see mine! We down-sized to a condo last Fall and there are no windows on that side. I have to depend on the natural light that comes in through the other rooms {open floor plan} and not that great recessed lighting in the ceiling. I have two lamps I use on the counters for night time, too.
I love your new countertops! We are going to have to get that done, too, as well as a deeper sink. I’ll be keeping the countertop light, too, when we do ours.
I guess mine could be worse! I was able to add a couple of can lights over the island. I did not show pictures of that, because I have not painted the ceiling around them yet! When you get your countertops, get the deep sink! That is probably my favorite part of the kitchen!
What a lovely kitchen! Beautiful job. Visiting from Southern Lovely. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday link party @TheDedicatedHouse. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2012/06/make-it-pretty-monday-week-2.html Wishing you a grand day! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
I would be glad to share!
Hi, just found your blog thru Restore Interiors, I love your kitchen!!! The countertops look fabulous, and that sink…wow! Do you mind sharing were you got it from? We are looking to update our countertops in the next few months, and I want a sink like yours!! I have seen some on Overstock, but I need to also look in other places as well. I can see why you love it so much! What a sweet dad you have. Have a great day.
I ordered my sink through my granite guy. (Celtic Marble and Granite in Murfreesboro, TN) All I know is that it was shipped from Atlanta. I can ask him? It is my favorite part of my kitchen updates! Thanks for visiting!
Beautiful! I really like how you used the basket above your fridge to hold the cookbooks and the $1 bucket to hold utensils. And that deep sink is gorgeous! I love my big sink. It can hold A LOT of dirty dishes! LOL !
I did not even know how much I would LOVE that sink! Thanks for stopping by!
Your kitchen is fabulous. I love it. Love the light granite, it is stunning. Hugs, Marty
Thanks! I was so pleased to find that lighter granite!
I am in love with your kitchen – everything about it! I am so jealous! Could you please share the paint color/brand of those chocolate walls, so warm and welcoming!
I will find out the name of the color! Thanks for the sweet comment!

Hi, Melissa,
You asked about the lamps in my post about the IMS medical building. They are made by the same company that made the bird art that you said you’d been eyeing, Creative Co-op. Hope this helps.
Yes! Now I can have my friend who owns the store get one of them for me!!! Thanks for letting me know! Now to decide which one. . .
Melissa, I love your kitchen update, the marble is beautiful and I agree, my next sink will be really deep! I do have to say that I would have to have labels on all of the baskets (I have quite a few as well) to remember what is in which!

I just climb on top of my counters and peek in each basket until I find what I need. . . labels would be much easier! I have often thought how I would explain to people just how I broke my arm. . .Ha!
I love your kitchen. I really love the brick backsplash. found you on Toot Your Own Horn.

Your kitchen is wonderful. I really like how you brightened it with painted cabinets and new countertop. Love the island in the middle. Just the right size to be useful without getting in the way.

I love my girls art work! I will be sad when they are too old to make things for the fridge!
I just love your kitchen. It is wonderful. Love the cabinets and the stove and fridge. We are getting ready to change our kitchen and I’m going to show this to my hubby. Love how you have decorated too. It is just perfect.
Blessings,
Debbie
You are too sweet! We have replaced the appliances over the past few years. . . one at a time. . . as they died! Good luck with your renovations! Enjoy the process!
Oh, what a beautiful kitchen you have! It’s so large too and I love all your space to place your pretties.
be a sweetie,
shelia
Thanks! I have got to start limiting my “pretties” or it is going to totally fill up!
Love your kitchen. The counter top is perfect with your cabinets. Your dad is a blessing!

Notice there is no picture of the kitchen table! That is where everything got stacked!!! Thanks for stopping by!
beautiful beautiful kitchen / love the color scheme.
LOL I am going to have to do a post on my blog about my galley kitchen one day. It’s probably 1/8 the size of yours so count your blessings
I do count my blessings with this kitchen! I have enjoyed the more “serene” colors. It used to be bright – red, gold, green. I am finding that I like to live with softer colors.
Love the way you bumped the upper cabinet up to install microwave. Lovely kitchen!
The crazy thing is, now that we have a microwave, we never use it! It is basically a popcorn popper! But, I do like the way it looks! Thanks for stopping by!
Your kitchen is wonderful. Love those chocolate walls and the brick back-splash. It’s all so cozy!!
Cozy is one of my favorite decorating words! Enjoy your weekend!
Your kitchen is lovely!
