Modern Christmas Wreath

Sometimes I have really grand wreath making ideas. 🙂

They involve wire forms and pinecones and spray-on snow and berries and hot glue.

And they end up this horrible train wreck of crumbled pinecones…

…with wire and hot glue hanging off of them…

…that your dog keeps sniffing every time she passes by.  And you wonder if you should ever attempt to make a wreath again?

Later that day you’re walking through the hardware store trying to move on to the next project.

You came for spray paint but you forgot what you’re looking for so you end up on the dryer vent aisle.

And you think you see wreath potential.

So you ask the hardware store guy if he thinks hot glue would hold the dryer vent together in a circle and he directs you to the dryer vent attachments and recommends that you never use hot glue on your dryer vent.

To which you try to explain that you actually have no intention of using this for your dryer but that you’re trying to make this really cool modern industrial Christmas wreath.

And he steps back…turning his head slightly to the side… and half smiles at you… looking at you like you’ve all of a sudden grown horns right out of the top of your head.

So you tell him thanks so much for his help…

…but you think you’ve got this. 🙂

So you go home and gather your supplies.

And wish that you had the hardware guy’s cell number so you could send him a picture of just what dryer vent could be. 🙂

  1. FUN FACT: It only LOOKS like a dryer vent.

I’m married to her. I know the TRUTH.

What she is not telling you poeple is that she ripped the arms off that robot from LOST IN SPACE to make this project.

    “Danger…Danger Will Robinson!”

…but I love her anyway. What CAN’T she use to make something?

    • It does look like the robot arms…LOL! But the wreath is gorgeous! Great creative thinking!

  9. Your dryer vent wreath is gorgeous, the silver just gleams. It’s so pretty and perfect without all the gobbledegook we usually put on our wreaths. Imagine it was quite reasonably priced also, where will you hang it? Now I want one, what an old copy cat I am. I know great when I see it. Happy days
(some people just don’t have any imagination, they’d rather scoff at new ideas)

  10. This is the cutest wreath! I love it uses easy materials. It could be really cute painted too! Thanks for sharing your creativity.

  11. Unique and pretty. I like what you said about the pinecone wreath. I did see a pretty one. The lady bought a cheaper variety not decorated, spray painted it a light gray, then sprayed with snow and added red birds. It was gorgeous. However, I have not found one of those wreaths yet and it probabably cost a lot. Like your idea.

  12. Okay – I was laughing at the “never use hot glue on your dryer vent,” but then your husband’s comment pushed me over the edge. So funny! Also, your wreath is awesome. I really, really like it. If you have a minute, I would love it if you linked it up to the Handmade Holiday Link Party. 🙂

  13. This is so cool! I love the way you think outside of the box..or is it dryer?lol

ROFL @ your husband’s comment! love it!! Just subscribed to your blog! found you through the roadkill rescue post!
