Happy Halloween Front Porch

Posted by on Sep 18, 2013 in front door, front porch, Halloween | 18 comments

If you are tall and you come to my house you might hit your head…

…I’m sorry.

I just got carried away.

I totally intended to have SIMPLE and HAPPY Halloween decorations.

My simple ended up looking painfully plain.

And then I was at Target this morning and there was a giant team of people unloading cart after cart of Halloween decorations.

And lined up under all the costumes were plastic pumpkin candy buckets.

The kind like I used to have.

And they were only $1!

So I bought 5…I had a plan for a Happy Halloween front porch!

I realized my plan was going to call for Command hooks.

I wiped the area with alcohol where I was going to hang my Command hooks.

I used 4 of them above my door.

I let them set for 1 hour.

And, then I began hanging paper lanterns with fishing line.

I started with 2 lanterns each tied to the end of the same piece of fishing line.

This way, I could hang lanterns and pumpkins anywhere along that line.

The candy buckets reminded me of paper lanterns,

and Hobby Lobby had a great assortment of colors.

{Notice the orange lantern,

that is the one that tall people will have to be careful of. :)}

I just kept tying more onto the line.

I thought it really added some “Happy!”

Because, I loved my chalkboard banner.

And, my happy painted pumpkins.

But, the lanterns and pumpkins were just the finishing touch I was looking for.

So much for simple! 🙂

I’ll show you how to make this happy wreath in just a couple of days.

Life to the full!

  7. There’s so much to see and to comment on but I’m going to take the easy route, love it all. So festive, happy, colorful, cheerful, FUN and everything else awesome. You really did it up good gal. Love it soo much. Great idea with command hooks, they’re pretty darned handy and perfect for what you did. I keep forgetting to get some.
You must grin every time you go out on your porch. Did your hubs like it and the girls?
Must feel really good to be so creative and make something so happy for all to see.
I’ve been making fabric pumpkins today. I had all the supplies I needed so went scrounging in my stash and kept finding more and more. I used the zigzag stitch on perimeter edges of pumpkins to hopefully give them more zip. Loved it. Kept making more and more. I found some canvas I had for years so used that mostly to make them then wrote things on pumpkins. Made couple using some burlap but it tends to fall apart when I try to put it with something else. Another reason I used the zigzag so it would help to keep it from raveling. At least I finally figured out how to sew burlap on my sewing machine, yay hoo.
Found some great fabric to make another table runner. Making pillow covers. God bless my fabric stash. Hubs will ask me where I got that fabric and I’m happy to tell him in my stash. Course my sewing room looks like a hurricane went thru but that’s ok, we’re only ones that see it.
Not sure what I’ll do with all pumpkins I made but might become a garland. I’ve been making all kinds of stuff and having a great time. I think I’m happiest when I’m creating, not just sitting watching tv. Don’t do that anyway. My mind is going 2/40 all the time of things I want to make. Hope that’ll keep this old brain perking for long time yet. Just not ready to be an old lady, doddering around.
Enjoy your wonderful decorations, they’re awesome and so fun. Happy days.

  18. I don’t even know how to respond to this….because it’s the cutest porch get-up I’ve never seen!!!! It may be because I love COLOR and you have done it up BIG here! I get tired of the same orange and black designs, so this was a great punch!
