Hanging Birdcages from the Trees

I am not sure what qualifies someone to be a “crazy bird lady?”

I am pretty sure it involves mumbling to yourself. . .

feeding birds out of your hands. . .

and spending most of your days on a park bench.

But, as I hung these birdcages from the tree. . .

And, added wreaths. . .

complete with bows.

I began to wonder about myself?

I tend to decorate with a bird theme.

People buy me beautiful bird pillows.

They bring me fantastic nests they have found.

All with the same words attached:

“I saw this and thought of you.”

So, should I be creeped out that this is the 2nd bird this season that has had baby birds on our front porch.

And, she lets me take her picture?!

Maybe I am that crazy bird lady.

So, if you ever see me on a park bench,

do come by and say hello!

Life to the full!

  1. I think everything looks really cute! There is an old saying (or proverb or something) that if a bird attaches it’s nest to your house, it means there is love inside. And you’re 2 and 0!

    XO,
    Jane

  2. NOthing wrong with being a bird lady, whether you sit and talk to yourself on a park bench or not. NO that would be me. lol
The cages hanging in the tree look so pretty with their wreaths and bows. So classical you. Everything you do is so calm and well done. Love that about you. Does anything bother you? How are you succulents doing?
If I tried to hang my bird cages in the tree they’d be down the road somewhere. Our wind out here is pretty wild. I have to put scores of clothes pins on my laundry when I hang it out. The wind blows my glasses and hat off. In the summer when I hang sheets out by the time I get the last one hung the first ones are dry. Happy Days gal.

  3. You are so ready for summer. Lovely bird cages, chair and dog. LoL. Great spot to enjoy the summer breeze. Have a great weekend.

  5. its official- you are the bird lady. there can be worse things;-) i love birds too except for the barn swallows. they are not so cute-oh and cow birds they are nasty too. but the good far outweighs the bad!

  6. Never question your own sanity when it comes to decorating with unusal objects! I love your birdcages in the trees! Why not?! Looks fantastic! I have one in my attic and was thinking of using something in them to make wind chimes outside. You have inspired me! 🙂 – Karen

(and thank you again for a pic with that sweet muffin (aka your dog) in it!! She’s such a beauty!

  7. I love how the cages don’t have the bottoms attached. This makes for a clean display. No yuck can get stuck. I’m thinking of doing this as my daughter is doing Honers at uni on birds and found apprx .20 free bird cages on the road this month. We have a tone… Looking forward to putting little wreaths on just as you have. I think it’s adorable. Thank you.

  8. super cute idea!please come over and share your gardening posts at Fishtail Cottage’s garden party! xoox, tracie

  9. Melissa, there’s no shame in being the crazy bird lady! I think it’s fantastic. Hanging the bird cages from the tree is a really fun way to use them. it looks great.

  10. The bird houses look great on the tree. Don’t feel like your the only one who loves bird houses – I have quite a few also and so do most of my friends. However the birds don’t use them – they make their own nests.
Have a great weekend. Great post.

  17. Bird cages are so fun to decorate with, indoors or out. I have a huge metal one, a bit rusty, that I feed the birds in … just wire the door open and they go right in. looks so neat to see the birds inside. Love what you have done with yours, but especially love the beautiful bird, (looks like a white-wing dove), that built her nest on your porch.
    Nothing wrong with loving birds.
    Blessings,

  19. I featured this today at Mod Mix Monday!

  20. We have swallows nesting on our back porch almost every summer! I can hear the babies peeping but can’t really get close enough to see them. The nest is very high and the parents are very protective!
I like your cage decor. I put out a variety of old thrifted cages as porch decor along with other old things (old farmhouse). I’m glad to discover your blog! Lynne
