Drop Leaf Table for the Fall

Posted by on Sep 12, 2012 in fall, thrift store, yard sale | 17 comments

The tour of my fall home continues. . .

The theme for this year being “natural and thrifty.”

I have just about run out of my pinecones that I gathered at a friend’s house.

One sweet reader mentioned that she might mail me some of the tiny pinecones from Colorado?!

I can’t even believe it?!

I am on the search now for acorns or nuts.

I feel life a squirrel.

I wish I knew a squirrel.

I bet he could tell me where all of the nuts were around my area.

(Maybe I am not a squirrel, but a nut!)

Back to my house.

Here is the newly decorated drop leaf table that sits in a tiny hallway that connects my dining room to my kitchen.

So, let me share the thrifty finds from this table.

I bought a set of three of these stars for $25.

A little more than what I typically pay, but I just really loved them!

This is the middle size.

The biggest one is VERY large and will probably go with my outside fall decorations.

The small one does not have a home. . . yet.

(You are seeing the reflection of the bathroom that shares this tiny pass-thru.)

I have a few standard items that I am always on the hunt for.

One of them is pretty white containers.

You can just do so many beautiful things with them.

They look great filled with different items, or all just grouped together empty.

For this fall table. . .

 One got pinecones,

One got a dried Annabelle hydrangea,

And, one got a nest with an oversized acorn.

(Wish I could find a tree with acorns like that!)

Notice the stand with the flying pig (I just can’t resist a cute flying pig!)

I paid full price for this one several years back.

The one on the dining table is the one that I paid $1 for.

(Stands are also a standard item on my “what to look for at thrift stores” list.)

Once again, their possibilities are endless.

Anything looks more important when it is on a stand.

This table was also a yard sale find!

You can read more about it here.

I am always fascinated at what people are getting rid of!

I worked in my yard for most of the day.

Everything needed a good cleaning.

I cut trimmed, mowed, weeded, etc. . .

Have to get all of that done so that I can go to the yard sales Saturday morning!

The weather is really nice here in Murfreesboro this week, so that should inspire folks to clean out their garages.

Life to the full,

Melissa

  1. Oh…I have a drop leaf table and a couple of white glass bowls also…now I know what to do with them! And yes, it was a beautiful day in Nashville, not too far from you.

    Thanks for the great ideas.

  2. I went back and read your post on the drop leaf table – what a bargain – it really is a beauty, especially with your Fall decor on it. Sally

  3. Gorgeous table and what a deal!

  4. Another lovely vignette, Melissa! Love your flying pig on his pedestal. Seeing your two, I’ll be on the look out for another one for myself now! I also love little white pieces. They mix in easily with any color decor and because they are small they usually fit in perfectly.

  5. Beautiful! Love the drop leaf table. I’m on the hunt for one right now. Have you checked the Greenway for acorns? I’m not sure what particular spot but I’ll bet there’s a big oak tree somewhere along the path…or maybe one of Barfield Park’s nature trails.

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. Lovely. Wishing I had more room in my hallway for something this size. Just room for a small tabke which used to be one of two. Are you in the Murfreesboro of the Riverdale Warriors or another Murfreesboro here in Dixie? If you are here in TN, I know of an event coming up in Nov which might be right down your crafty little alley. Send me an e-mail and I will reply with info.

  7. Hey baby, there’s no maybe, I will send those pinecones to you but you’ll have to wait til the 26th. when I get paid. Until then I’m a broke senior citizen, lol. Will give me time to find more of them. I have some real acorns too but have no idea where they are in the shed. I picked them up one time when we were in Paulsboro, New Jersey over a new yrs. weekend. Stuck at a truck stop close by for 4 days so we walked around and found a couple antique stores. I’ve actually hauled those crazy things all over the country with us again. From N.J. to wherever we went, then home to MT then to KY then to CO. Yeah I’m a nut that way.
Sure wish I’d known about you when we lived in KY, could have looked you up ;but that’s alot of years ago as we left MT in 99.

  8. Oh.am so jealous of your drop leaf table. Your table looks so nice with some more of your awesome decorating items. You must have alot of “stuff” stashed somewhere. Good for you.
I had one I bought at a great antique place west of Helena, MT. I painted it white but it got messed up on our front porch in KY and hubs threw it away. AAAAAAAhhhhh!!! Think it could have been rahabilitated but he just threw it. A few words were exchanged. Don’t touch my goodies old man.
I love all your stands, you make very good use of them. YOu are so very talented. Could have been a stager.

  9. Melissa you put together such pretty vignettes! I loved taking a look around. Your newest follower and I added you to my sidebar so I don’t miss out on any of your future posts:) Have a great weekend!

  10. Very pretty! My these is “natural” this year too. I just love pinecones and acorns and the like. Thanks for sharing your pretty tablescape!

  11. I really love that star. Great find!

  12. Another gorgeous natural vignette. Thanks for sharing your creative inspiration with Sunday’s Best – you helped make the party a success!

  13. I am so wanting that white flying pig! He’s adorable!
You are right about certain things like stands and basic white items! Good basics and different varieties makes it more fun!

  14. Wow, I love it! The whole ensemble is adorable! I found you on I Heart Naptime! :)

  15. Great find and such a lovely vignette. So pretty. The twig cloche of course is my favorite. Love that piggy too. Hugs, Marty

  16. I love everything about this display and that table is to die for!!! Happy Friday!

  17. Very pretty vignette. I can’t believe you found that fabulous table at a yard sale!

    Warmly, Michelle
