DIY Turkey Placemats

When my Lila Mae was in kindergarten, she shared one of my “secrets” right there on her construction paper turkey for the entire school to see.

Mrs. Burgess had each of the children share their recipe for how they thought a turkey should be cooked for their Thanksgiving dinner.

Some children shared that their turkey should be cooked for 30 minutes at 150 degrees,

others wanted theirs cooked for 6 hours at 500.

Not my Lila Mae.

She knew exactly what her mother did.

Her “recipe” went exactly like this:

Call Slick Pig.

{our local bar-b-que place}

Order your turkey.

Have someone pick it up.

Put it on your table and cut it up.

Yes, that is still my famous turkey recipe. 🙂

Which leaves me plenty of time to make these fun placemats!

Turkey Placemats

Cut a turkey shape out of the brown felt.

{I’ve included the measurements in the picture so you can know how big my turkey is.}

Using a zig-zag stitch, sew the turkey down leaving a hole in the top for the napkin.

I’m sure that you could hot glue this as well.

Cut out the gobbler and legs,

and hot glue them on.

Thanksgiving Placemats

Add a bright plaid napkin for the feathers.

And, if you need to borrow my recipe…

…I’ll give you the number!

They smoke up some of the best turkey you’d ever want to eat.

Life to the full!

  3. Too funny about Slick Pig!!!! I’ve never cooked a turkey, and I loved Slick Pig when I was in your area. After a certain age, my Mom used to order her TG turkey from Morrison’s Cafeteria. 🙂 Love the placemats; they are adorable. I need grandchildren!
