My Family Room

My Family Room

As I look at the pictures of this room

I can’t help but to take a walk down memory lane. . .

We have called this house “home” now for over 12 years.

And, my how this room has evolved.

When we first moved in,

Daisy was 15 months old,

and I was pregnant with our second.

{I swore then that my next move would be to the nursing home.}

And, we added a third 2 years later.

This room has housed toy shelves,

dress up corners,

puppet stands,

and

art easels.

New Rugs!

Posted by on May 16, 2013 in family room, kitchen | 19 comments

I think shopping for a rug is the equivalent to

shopping for blue jeans. . .

You need the item,

you just can’t seem to find one that will do?

I have been rug shopping for a year.

Not straight.

On and off.

Why couldn’t I find a rug (or jeans)?

1.  I am cheap.

2.  I measured and remeasured trying to find the perfect fit.

3.  I wanted something basic, yet with personality.

4. Did I mention that I am cheap?

How to Make a Barn Wood and Moss Sign

Posted by on Apr 10, 2013 in crafts, family room, moss | 22 comments

A trip to my in-laws farm turned up some old barn wood.

Special barn wood.

Barn wood from the family barn.

It needed a special project.

To be displayed in a prominent place.

Adding Some Red to the Decor

Posted by on Apr 5, 2013 in dining room, family room, kitchen, thrift store | 14 comments

I see all of these beautiful, neutral rooms that I LOVE.

So, I begin to remove all bright colors from my rooms.

Then, I see a great lamp at the thrift store.

It is beautiful.

I cannot resist.

I fully intend on selling it,

or using it in a client’s house.

Decorating With Real Nests

Posted by on Apr 1, 2013 in dining room, family room | 28 comments

I would have to call my decorating style “eclectic.”

Which I think is a fancy decorating word for,

“I just can’t decide, so I will go with them all.”

“Eclectic” sounds like a real style.

“I just can’t make up my mind” doesn’t.

Through my wishy-washiness,

one element has stood the test of time with me.

Real nests.

Trash to Treasure Table

I am a person who sees decorating possibility in everything.

This can be a great trait when you are working on a tight budget.

It allows you to buy things at a bargain that most people overlook.

You can see past the rust,

the dated fabric,

the dirt.
