Setting a Pretty Fall Table

Setting a Pretty Fall Table

Could someone please tell me what happened to October?!

It seems that I blinked and I missed it.

But I am seriously glad that November will be here tomorrow.

I can’t wait to host Thanksgiving dinner!

And I’m already playing around with the table a bit.

I’m thinking something natural…and full of dried hydrangea…and acorns…and leaves…with a touch of gold.

Here is one idea for setting a pretty fall table.

The Fake Picnic that Changed Everything

The Fake Picnic that Changed Everything

So today…I almost quite blogging.  I was all set to write my farewell post and call it a day.

It all started with a typical afternoon. My girls were jumping on the trampoline after rushing home from school and I had about 15 minutes before we had to be to the next event of the day and I was setting up a picnic…that no one was ever going to sit down to. It was a fake picnic with no food and no people. I didn’t have time for a real picnic. It was just for the blog. And as I decided which candlesticks looked the best and whether I should include the white owl or run around to the front porch to borrow the mums…I couldn’t help but wonder if this was really how I should be spending my time.

I’m right in the middle of raising 3 girls. Girls that I am humbly trying to raise to love the Lord and love people.

This is not an easy task. It doesn’t just happen. It takes time and training and prayer. But I know that it’s my greatest mission in life currently.

I’m getting ahead of myself…I need to back up…

{And yes, you are going to have to look at these fake picnic pictures…I couldn’t waste them…They took too much time! }

Fall Front Porch Ideas

I’m tired…you probably can’t relate. 🙂

I’m probably the only one running ninety to nothing.

The only one with kids to get to soccer and cross country.

The only one who has children who need to dress up like Disney characters tomorrow and didn’t tell me until we were getting home… at 8:00…with the costumes needed in the morning…really?

I’m probably the only one who had exactly 20 minutes to cook dinner…pack it in a cooler…and rush out the door to the game.

The only one who could use a bit of a break.

The only one who needs to take a few minutes to count her blessings.

A few minutes to be reminded how good life is…what a blessing those children are…what a blessing that there is food that can be ready so quickly and easily…a few minutes to take a few deep breaths.

And when I know that I need those few minutes…my porch is the perfect place to go!

How to Make a Fall Sign

How to Make a Fall Sign

So if you have 10 minutes and a garage full of randomness

…this is the project for you.

And if you don’t have that garage full of randomness…maybe you are lucky like me and you have a friend with that perfect stash who is willing to share!

My garage is certainly full enough. {Don’t judge. There are amazing treasures in there. Honestly.}

So I had this idea that I needed a new Fall sign made with all fun letters…so I headed to my garage.

But I couldn’t find what I needed.

So I headed to the antique stores with friends and I put everyone on the hunt for random letters to spell “Fall.”

I came up dry. {Although I did score a few other treasures.}

So later that day my friend called me up…she had searched her stash…and had come up with a plan!

And it’s even more perfect that what I even had in mind!

How to Make a Fall Door Arrangement

How to Make a Fall Door Arrangement

 I have a friend named Staci that I decorate for.

She calls me before each season and I go over and help her spruce things up a bit. 🙂

And so last summer I made an arrangement for her front door.

And then I made it work for the fall…and then for Christmas.

She saves all of the flowers each season and then I just arrange them back in.

But this year we needed to get rid of some of the old and add in some new.

{When your greenery fades to blue…it’s time to toss it!}

So here is how to make a fall door arrangement…step by step!

Frugal Fall Art

Frugal Fall Art

I’m sure this has never happened to you.

You get all excited that it’s time to decorate for the fall…

…and you start getting the boxes of beautiful fall decorations from years past out of the attic.

Only to realize that the giant wicker acorn that you thought was just perfect when you bought it…now looks ridiculous…and you wonder what you were ever thinking to have bought the tin can mummies!?

And then you pull out a wheat wreath that you still love and your faith is restored.

But that is followed by a berry wreath that most of the berries have fallen off of and you don’t even like the color of the berries any more.

So after you sort through your collection you realize that you have enough to decorate your downstairs powder room…that measure 6×9…

…and maybe something to hang on the front door.

That’s when the fun begins and your frugal, creative self kicks in! 🙂

Here is one way to make some frugal fall art:
