Party at the Skidmores!

I had a revelation about 10:00 this morning.

Tonight was really going to be the best night to have a party to celebrate my Lila Mae’s birthday.

Needless to say, everything that I had planned to do today did not happen!

But, there is a slumber party going on upstairs right now with very happy children!

We don’t do giant birthday parties at our house.

This is definitely not one that you will be pinning!

But, even in all of this simplicity, Lila Mae has felt very special and very loved.

I can’t even count the times this evening that she has thanked me for this great party!

This is when I am so thankful for the more “permanent” birthday decorations that I have made in the past.

So, I thought I would share a couple of those with you!

The first is this cupcake that I painted a few years back.

I Made Napkin Rings Out of What?!

I like to repurpose when I can.  One thing that we always have a steady supply of are empty toilet paper rolls.  As I was thinking about how to set a fun table for Madeline’s birthday party, I knew that I wanted to have napkin rings.  The only problem is that they are expensive when you need 17 of them!

As I was removing the empty toilet paper roll from the dispenser, inspiration struck!  The toilet paper roll was the perfect diameter for a napkin ring!

So, here is what I came up with:

I continue with the party decorations. . .

The Rubios have a mantle that I was wanting to make something for.  I have seen pinwheels all over blog-world, so I decided I would make some of my own.  Here is what I came up with.

Party Hats!

Do you have friends that are so close that you name them as family?  We are blessed with such friends in our lives with the Rubio family.  Madeline just turned 13 and her mom, Becky, is having a “mentor” birthday brunch.  The brunch is going to be for those ladies in Madeline’s life who are special to her and are committed to being there for her in her life.

And as my gift to her, I am decorating for the event!  Madeline loves bright colors; some of her favorites being blue, green and purple.  So, those are the colors that I am going to use!

I want to set the table and put name cards at each place.  I thought that I cute way to do that would be to put the names on party hats.  Unfortunately, there are not very many cute party hats to choose from that would fit the color scheme!

So, this is what I came up with.
