Carrot Placemats

Carrots hold a special place in my heart.

I’ll never forget when I was about 6…

…my friend Kelly and I were playing restaurant in her backyard.  We were pulling up various weeds and making “salad” out of them. The goal was to pull up the weeds roots and all.  On occasion there would be a tiny onion on the end of one of those weeds.  Those were very valuable in the “salad” world of a 6 year old!

But one timeone time we pulled up an actual carrot

…and that my friends is gold in the salad making world of a 6 year old and I will NEVER forget it.

Carrots have held a special place in my heart every since. 🙂

So here is how to make a carrot placemat.

How to make carrot placemats

plain placemats

orange fabric

orange ribbon

green paint

Easter placemats

Cut a triangle of the orange fabric.

Cut a piece of ribbon a bit wider than the top of the carrot.

Sew the ribbon to the top wrapping the ends around.

Zig-zag stitch the top of the carrot to give it more stability.

Sew the carrot to the placemat leaving the top open.

{I just left the edges raw.}

Paint on some green leaves.

This way, when the green napkin is removed, the carrot will still have a top.

By the way, Kelly and I frantically pulled up every weed we could possibly find and never found another carrot.

But I still hold that special memory! 🙂

Life to the full!
