Decorating a Family Room

Can I be honest with you? Sometimes I struggle with contentment. I lead a life that is blessed beyond measure.  I have every reason to be the most contented person on planet Earth. But sometimes I get caught up in things like…not liking the fabric on my sofa…and not being able to find just the right buffet  for my kitchen…and how I don’t like my 25 year old bathroom with faucet handles that look like giant diamonds. And when I come out of my tailspin of self pity…I’m nauseated with myself. But then I tell myself that I...

Paint and Decoupage Furniture

I must admit that my family is typically behind the times with technology. We just got rid of our VCR last year….we don’t even own a DVR…and we just got cable. There is no Blu-Ray at this house…or surround sound. We still have a home phone complete with an answering machine with the cutest message you’ve ever heard from our girls. {They were 4 and 2 when they recorded the message…they are now 15 and 12 and we’ve added another that is now 10.} But that message is so adorable that we can’t bear to not hear it...

5 Fall Decorating Ideas

Fall…Could you please hurry up and get here? I can’t go outside without melting.  And it doesn’t get any better in my car. My air conditioner isn’t working in my front seat, which is why I am the crazy woman driving around town with my windows down when it is 95 degrees outside. And that’s not even counting the heat index or the humidity…sweet mercy. I find that if I blast the air in the backseat and roll the windows down in the front, it creates a sort of air tunnel effect that brings the cool air from the back to...

How to Make Pumpkins from Toilet Paper Rolls

My Daisy turns 15 today. This means that she’ll be driving my car soon. Driving. My. Car. With people in it. Including me and her father and her 2 younger sisters. Driving us to school. Driving us to the grocery store. Driving us to church. Lila Mae asked, “Do we get a special car while Daisy learns? One with an extra steering wheel on your side, Mom?” This isn’t a bad idea. I think I’d like an extra steering wheel and brake. Could someone invent that real quick…like before she passes this driver’s...

Simply Saturday

Happy Saturday morning to you! I hope that you are enjoying a slow morning with coffee…for me. I’m picking up Anna Belle from a slumber party…and then driving across town to pick Lila Mae up from another slumber party…and my sweet hubby took Daisy to a Cross Country meet this morning at 7:00. My plan is to get the other girls picked up and get out to the meet in time to watch Daisy run.  This is her first time to run Cross Country and I’m excited to see how meets work? So as I enjoy my morning with a cup of coffee to go…I...

How to Make a Fall Wreath

Fall is right around the corner. I know it is because my calendar told me so. Too bad that someone forgot to tell the weather. Cross Country was cancelled for my oldest today because the heat index is at 109! 1.0.9. That isn’t even close to fall… But I will just keep pretending and setting out pumpkins and decorating wreaths and displaying gourds in cute little DIY cloches and totally ignoring the fact that you melt as soon as you walk outside the door. I’m good at pretending…as long as I have an air conditioner! So for...

How to Make a Cloche

When we got married 19 years ago, “theme” showers were all the rage. We had a book shower, ornament shower (December wedding), basket shower, kitchen shower and while I had my lingerie shower…my husband had his tool shower. Now my David is probably the greatest husband and father on the planet, and if you need encouragement or laughter or a speaker for teens or a dishwasher…he’s your guy. If you need a hammer or socket wrench…you’ll need to come to me. I’m still using “his” tools from that...

Decorating a Front Entrance

I should be awarded Mother of the Year. I just fed my children dessert for dinner. It did involve apples and ice cream {there is calcium in ice cream}…so maybe that makes it better? These are the kind of things that happen when I’m exhausted. The girls just finished their first week of school…we had a soccer tournament Friday night and Saturday morning…we had 32 teens for a cookout Saturday night… …and I’m back to my 5:30 wake-up. The BEST of times, but exhausting! I did have some time to work on decorating my front...

Simply Saturday

Happy Saturday. My girls just finished their first week of school. I now have one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary.  That should just about cover it! The first day that I picked them all up…the reports were the same from all 3…BEST 1ST DAY OF SCHOOL EVER! This is music to a mother’s ear! And with the girls back in school, I’ve had a bit of time to plot and plan how I will be spending some of my time… I’ve been wanting to add some “state” art around the...

Decorating a Front Porch

I start my morning right here on this front porch. With a cup of coffee and my golden retriever at my feet. I do a bit of reading and praying. I look over my calendar to see who needs to be where when and I try to get a plan together. And I make my “to-do” list. And sometimes I’m thrilled with the day ahead…and other days I’m content…and other days I’m totally overwhelmed or afraid. So that is why I have a new little chalkboard on my front porch. And it’s the first thing that I see in the...
