Ways to Use a Vintage Toolbox

When I was younger, I could enjoy a Saturday morning by sleeping in. But as soon as my body hit the age of 40, I was cursed with the “no longer able to sleep past about 7:00 a.m. phenomenon.” So when I rolled over at 4:45 on Saturday morning and was unable to go back to sleep {“Thank you 42 year old body”…said by me in a highly sarcastic tone.} I got up, had my coffee and got a bit of fall decorating done. About 10:00, a group of us headed to Woodbury, TN which happens to be the home of one of my favorite antique...

Simple Saturday

So today I actually had to wear a jacket to the soccer game. A jacket. Do you realize at the last soccer game…just 3 short days ago…it was so hot…even my eyelids were sweating. And I didn’t even know that was physically possible. But it looks like fall is really on its way! And I’ve got some exciting news…if you like fall…and HOME TOURS! In just 2 weeks, I’m helping to host a Fall Home Tour! You aren’t even going to believe the amazing homes you’re going to be able to tour…right there in...

How to Frame a Poster

This is so ridiculously easy…that I almost didn’t share it. I mean, I’m almost embarrassed to share it. But it just turned out so exactly like what I was hoping. And sometimes I need ridiculously easy. Because in just 2 weeks, I am hosting a Fall Home Tour with 20 of the most AMAZING bloggers in the world! And needless to say my house looks like the Hobby Lobby fall aisle exploded in my foyer and dining room and kitchen… …yeah, it’s that bad. And I figured if you are anything like me {minus the Hobby Lobby...

Frugal Fall Art

I’m sure this has never happened to you. You get all excited that it’s time to decorate for the fall… …and you start getting the boxes of beautiful fall decorations from years past out of the attic. Only to realize that the giant wicker acorn that you thought was just perfect when you bought it…now looks ridiculous…and you wonder what you were ever thinking to have bought the tin can mummies!? And then you pull out a wheat wreath that you still love and your faith is restored. But that is followed by a berry wreath that...

How to Make a Banner

Forty-six 7th graders just left my house. 46. We filled them with pizza and cookies and washed it all down with cokes…. …and then all 46 of them crammed into our family room for a game of charades. Boys vs. Girls. And for the next hour they acted like dinosaurs and Spiderman and pretended to cook and mop… …as their team yelled answers at the top of their lungs. So if you catch any misspelled words or these directions don’t make much sense… …blame it on the charades. Or the yelling. Or the claustrophobia. But this...

Simply Saturday

I’m collecting fall ideas. I know…it might be too early for some of you…{don’t judge}…but I CAN’T WAIT! The girls have been back in school for a few weeks and we are ready to move on to the next season… …the season of cool weather, thoughts of family and thankfulness, warm fires and a general feeling of coziness! I’ve collected so many ideas on my Fall Pinterest board that it’s crazy! I just can’t seem to get enough of wheat, acorns, gourds, pumpkins and such… Enjoy these...

How to Make Wood Placemats

It is so true. As we grow older…we turn into our mothers. Which for me is a very fortunate thing. I have an amazing mother. And as much as I hope to grow to be as kind and compassionate as she is…and as much as I hope to be as generous and thoughtful as she is… …it seems like I’m inheriting some other of her traits. Like her goofy dance moves {only seen by my immediate family} and her ability to make mashed potatoes that send you back for 2nds and 3rds {my family thanks her for this} and her obsession with the tiny felt...

How to Make a Fall Wreath

Yesterday was almost a bad day. I spent 3 hours trying to get some technical issues resolved with the blog. {So sorry if you were one of the ones who got 2 emails about my last post. I think it’s fixed now!} My husband had to cancel our standard Tuesday lunch date. I went to fix myself a glass of sweet tea only to realize that it had expired. And our air conditioner upstairs stopped working. I was on the verge of a tailspin to a bad day… …but I remembered what I had just written in my last post. I was going to spend the day...

Decorating a Family Room

Can I be honest with you? Sometimes I struggle with contentment. I lead a life that is blessed beyond measure.  I have every reason to be the most contented person on planet Earth. But sometimes I get caught up in things like…not liking the fabric on my sofa…and not being able to find just the right buffet  for my kitchen…and how I don’t like my 25 year old bathroom with faucet handles that look like giant diamonds. And when I come out of my tailspin of self pity…I’m nauseated with myself. But then I tell myself that I...

Paint and Decoupage Furniture

I must admit that my family is typically behind the times with technology. We just got rid of our VCR last year….we don’t even own a DVR…and we just got cable. There is no Blu-Ray at this house…or surround sound. We still have a home phone complete with an answering machine with the cutest message you’ve ever heard from our girls. {They were 4 and 2 when they recorded the message…they are now 15 and 12 and we’ve added another that is now 10.} But that message is so adorable that we can’t bear to not hear it...
